After school instruction in carving, voyaging, and textile weaving connects students with the traditional skills of older generations. They cultivate traditional values and promote cultural identity.

The mentorship model focuses on developing networks of support for students while instilling a sense of work ethic and accomplishment, particularly in at-risk students.

Habele provides tools and mini-grants for innovative local groups who develop sustainable mentorship programs on their own initiative. This includes commissioning the forging of specialized blades for carvers building traditional Carolinian canoes.
