Young Island Readers

Our work · Young Island Readers

A book of their own.
Every month.

A new story to share. A small library to grow up with.

Young Island Readers brings books to young children in Yap State through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. A new, age-appropriate book is sent each month for every enrolled child until their fifth birthday, free to their family.

An adult and a young child sit together reading a picture book beside the water.

Reading starts together

A little time.
A story to share.

A parent, grandparent, or older sibling can turn a new book into a shared moment—and help make reading part of everyday life.

Free to families.

Habele supporters help cover the books. Families pay nothing to participate in Young Island Readers.

Until the fifth birthday.

For Yapese or Outer Islander children under five who live within Yap State. Books are chosen for their age.

A book to keep.

Every book belongs to the child, adding to a collection they can return to again and again.

Reaching island families

Across Yap and
its Outer Islands.

Books follow local delivery routes: post office boxes on Yap, flights to Ulithi, Fais, and Woleai, and ship mailbags to other Outer Islands.
